Felix Potvin

Felix "the Cat" Potvin was born on June 23, 1971 in Anjou, Quebec. As a youngster Potvin played hockey in his home province and moved up to the Chicoutimi Sagueneens of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). In 1990 he was drafted in the second round, #30 overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs. He spent the majority of the 1991-92 season with the St. John's Maple Leafs of the American Hockey League (AHL). By 1992 he had taken over the role of Toronto's number one goalie and was soon a fan favourite. A calm and quiet person on and off the ice, Felix Potvin was best known for his quick reflexes which game him the nickname "the Cat".

He was instrumental in the success Toronto had during the early to mid 1990s. Things began moving downhill for Potvin in Toronto when the Leafs signed free agent goalie Curtis Joseph in 1998. Early on in 1999, he was traded to the New York Islanders along with a Leaf draft pick for Bryan Berard and an Islander pick. Felix played with the Islanders for less than a year before being traded to the Vancouver Canucks for Dave Scatchard, Kevin Weekes and Bill Muckalt. After a couple of years in Vancouver he moved to the Los Angeles Kings in 2001 and played the 2003-04 season as a backup with the Boston Bruins. He is currently unsigned and is a free agent.
